Consultations

Consultations are by appointment (‘phone 546 9646), but in an emergency we will see your animal either outside consulting hours or at short notice.  Try to ensure that the person best suited to describe the problem attends
the consultation.

Please have dogs on a lead and cats in a basket. If you are not sure if your pet needs to see the vet please do not hesitate to phone our trained reception staff to discuss your concerns.

Preventative Health Care

The health care of your pet is our main concern and prevention is better than cure. We recommend that your pet is vaccinated and that these vaccinations are kept up to date. You will receive booster reminders from us. At the time of annual health check and booster vaccination your pet will be given a health
check by the vet.

Any problems can be discussed and advice given, for example, about descaling and polishing of teeth. All pets are weighed when they come in for appointments and weight changes can be very useful in monitoring health and well-being and changes in weight are often indicators of disease.

Clients are welcome to visit the clinic with their pets for a free dental or weight check. Internal and external parasite control is also important. We stock a wide range of highly effective wormers and flea products. The staff will be happy to discuss the best product for your particular situation. We also stock various diets, both for healthy pets and those, which your vet may prescribe as treatment for a particular problem.

Home Visits

A vet can visit your pet at home but please remember that it is necessary to schedule the visit around the clinic appointments and surgery. House visits can be time consuming and in general less satisfactory, especially in an emergency, as less equipment is available.  Alternatives include dropping the patient in for a day stay or using our nurse taxi collection service. If possible, please book house visits well in advance.

A surcharge is added to home consultations.  When the vet is coming to visit please ensure cats are kept confined as they often have a habit of disappearing when the vet arrives!

Dental Care

Imagine the world without dentists! We would all live shorter, pain filled lives - not something we would want, and yet dental health is far too often neglected with our pets. Never underestimate the importance of dental health and hygiene.

Ideally, as with the human population we want to prevent dental problems rather than fix the problem after it has occurred. Your vet will normally check your pet’s teeth during routine consultation and vaccination visits but if you are concerned please book in for a Free Dental Check.

Warning signs of dental problems include:
-
Halitosis (smelly breath)
- Ptyalism (lots of saliva)
- Obvious mouth pain
- Poor appetite/chewing only on one side

Weight management

A healthy body weight is a central and integral part of healthy living We encourage all pets with "weight issues" to come in regularly for free weight checks which can be logged onto their patient record. The staff can give advice on dietary matters such as an obesity program.
